4D Bible Encounters | Multiple ways of interacting with the Bible that include: -Drench -Dig -Doodle -Do | I often take a week to complete a 4D Bible Encounter on a passage. I’ll Drench for a day or two and then keep listening to the bible passage during chores, walks or drives. I’ll dig into the passage for several days and finish up with some doodles and a plan for application (do). | Coming Soon |
Application | A step in the C.O.M.M.A. Tool where you examine the application of a passage of the bible or how you should respond to it. | After really struggling with 2 Sam 13-18, after praying about it, I doodle journaled this (which says “people do lots of stupid things but the LORD is still working”) | It’ll be a bit |
BibliGold | A name made up by my highschooler for this blog. It combines the words Bible and gold-two of the most precious resources in the world. My greatest prayer for you is that the Bible would turn into gold in your life. | You’re looking at it!!!
Burning Heart | A phrase from Luke 24:32 when two men are talking about their reaction to when Jesus was talking to them about the scripture | I often get this at some point during the 4D process. Often it’s while deeply digging into a passage, but sometimes it’s as I work on a doodle reflection or while I’m listening to the passage as I make dinner. | It’s gonna be a while until I get to writing a blog about this. Thanks for your patience. |
C.O.M.M.A. Tool | A tool to use to help methodically and carefully examine God’s word. Contains 5 steps: -Context -Observation -Messiah -Meaning -Application | Check back for a link to a freebie tool to help you navigate the C.O.M.M.A. tools. | I can’t wait to share it with you! |
Context | A step in the C.O.M.M.A Tool where you examine the context of a passage of the bible. | Job 3 doesn’t make such sense without Job 1 and 2 where we learn about Job and what he’s been through. | Just like all good context, you need some info first before you can really understand context (It’ll be up after you know more:) ) |
Dig | Part of the 4D Bible Encounter process that focuses on using the C.O.M.M.A. Tool to methodically examine God’s word | I probably spend the most time on this step. This is the step that makes my heart sing and burn within me. It’s also the step that requires the most mental energy, but God’s word rewards hard work. It’s so worth it. | Coming soon |
Drench | Part of the 4D Bible Encounter process that focuses on spending time encountering God’s word in multiple ways until you are overflowing or dripping with God’s word. | I love this step. I especially love listening to the passage over and over. It makes it come alive and gives me such a good foundation to really dig in and examine it in the next steps. | Coming soon. |
Do | Part of the 4D Bible Encounter process that focuses on reacting to God’s word | Challenge yourself to make sure that you don’t just read and study the Bible but also respond to it. | Coming soon |
Doodle | Part of the 4D Bible Encounter process that focuses on using doodles to track, react to and remember God’s word | This is often the most fun or challenging step. I have to actively remember to put my perfectionism aside and have fun. | Coming Soon |
Doodle Reflection | Use simple drawings and different kinds of fonts to help process, remember, or be a physical reminder of a verse or theme from the passage | All good things are worth the wait
Doodle Tracking | Use simple doodles to mark and track observations while examining a passage of the bible | All good things are worth the wait
Observation | A step in the C.O.M.M.A Tool where you methodically examine a passage of the bible. | Use your best investigative skills and figure what’s going on in the passage. Don’t worry I’ve got a worksheet for you too! | Good observation takes time. I’ll link it as soon as it’s publish |
Meaning | A step in the C.O.M.M.A Tool where you examine the meaning or interpretation of a passage of the bible. | This step is one of the most tempting to jump to first. BUT that’s one of the easiest ways to not actually understand a passage. So go in the correct order! | Coming soon |
Messiah | A step in the C.O.M.M.A Tool where you examine a passage of the Bible looking for Jesus or how the passage relates to Jesus. | A passage without Jesus in it- Judges 21:25 “ In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” which raises the question- would a king or something else be better and help solve Israel’s problems? A Passage with Jesus in it- Matthew 1:1 says, “This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham” from this verse we can note that the Messiah’s name is Jesus, and we still know his genealogy, he is descended from King David and Abraham. We can also be pretty sure the book of Matthew is going to be about Jesus. | Coming soon |
